Ugen Namgyal Bhutia popularly known by his stage name “UNB” is a North East Indian rapper, songwriter and a music producer.
Born and brought up in Gangtok, Sikkim. He is currently studying sound engineering in Pune, Maharashtra. From a tender age, Ugen had a keen interest in writing narrative songs and playing guitar. Heavily influenced by rappers like Tupac, Eminem, Jay-Z, T.I and B.o.B, he makes Hip Hop tracks with a bit of R&B influences here and there. He Writes his own lyrics and produces the songs he makes. Since 2012 he has been active in Social Media, promoting his music and posting his original songs online to websites such as Reverbnation, SoundCloud, and YouTube etc. He also wrote a song titled “CALL ME INDIAN” voicing his agony towards the racism against the Northeast Indian people in the country.
From singing in the shower to singing on stage and now on the verge of releasing his Debut E.P. When asked about who is his favourite singer he says “I don’t have one, I don’t follow a particular artist. If the song I hear is good then regardless of what the genre it is I will download it and listen it. “He writes all kind of songs and he describes it best with the help of beats and tunes. Whilst visiting his Page, it’s for certain that he has dipped his toes in every Style of Theme. If you are love struck, then there is the sweet
“Timi Sangai (With You)”, if you are in the patriotic mood, then there is the anthem “Call Me Indian”, if the feels of homesickness bite you, then there is the bittersweet “Love You Mom”. So basically he is a singer wrapped inside with the release of his debut EP “Out Loud” he intends to reach new horizons of making music and expressing the inexpressible through songs which he knows best. In this new album he has collaborated with various artists saying that “I want to try new things with this album, going beyond my comfort zone and doing something creative with these artists is inspiring to witness and they are the best collaborators you would ever wish for. I am humbled, and I must say that it was very informative too “. His album is out this July and he is leaving no stones unturned to make it a grand launching pad for him. On asking him about his future plans he says “I am still learning. I assure you that my debut LP will be my best. I intend to experiment with all the genres of music and come up with something which will be accepted by all the people, regardless of what kind of genres they listen to”.
